The Marvellous Magic of PR

Here at Planit Scotland, our PR & media relations team is led by Eoin, our very own David Copperfield of the PR world and magician extraordinaire. It’s for this reason that we felt it was only appropriate to explain what exactly PR is, and how it can help you and your business, through the perspective of the magician’s eye.

PR isn’t just smoke and mirrors

Public relations isn’t just about gaining good publicity when things go wrong, nor is it about bamboozling your customers. This is the first way in which magic and PR find themselves aligning. When people talk about magicians, they often talk about misdirection – which is unsurprising when they are known for their magic tricks!

However, that is a bit of a misnomer, as what magicians actually do is direct people’s attention to where they want. Magicians are expert communicators, as they can use words and body language to convey miracles and get people to look where they are directed, and see only what the magician wants them to see. In the world of PR, the aim is much the same, and strategists will work to ensure your business achieves the visibility it should be getting.

Storytelling is the oldest trick in the PR handbook

When a magician takes to the stage, they first introduce themselves to their audience. Why do they do this? To help the audience connect with them as a performer and feel like they’re part of the show. This is how we want your customers to view you. They are the participants in your own business (or show!) and they should feel a part of the journey.

To do this, a PR professional will use the greatest and oldest trick in the PR handbook – the art of storytelling. Everyone has a story to tell, especially our clients, and we want your story to be heard.

But how?

At Planit, we’ll learn the great story behind your beginnings, uncover the hidden charms and unique selling points of your work, and acknowledge the little extra details that would ordinarily go unnoticed. The reason for this is to introduce, promote and establish you and your business across the right social and professional networks.

This could mean researching, drafting, and distributing the perfect press release that tells the story of your next big campaign, recent success, or perhaps your move into a career of magic! We will then share these with industry leading publications, national or regional press, social platforms, or simply anyone who we believe should hear about you and your business.

Plus, we won’t just wait for journalists to come to us. We’ll actively pitch stories and opportunities to relevant networks in order to get you the opportunities you deserve.

And if you don’t think you have a story to tell, we’ll just split you in half to find one…  just kidding, but we will sit down with you and your team and see what we can find. You’d be surprised how often the details that you think are minor can turn into the star performer of your business’ show.

It’s as easy as pulling a rabbit out of a hat

It might not sound simple, but at Planit we can guarantee that PR comes easy to our expert team.

We believe PR is an integral part of the overall marketing strategy of your business and we want to provide our clients with as much opportunity as possible to shine a light on their work.

With the connections, resources, and decades of experience we have behind us, consider  Team Planit your new glamorous assistant, here to help you to make your business dazzle. This includes taking an active role in reaching out and sourcing opportunities that suit your business and values, helping you to gain the right exposure for you and your products and services.
